Day 1

/ Tuesday 29 June 2010 /
I have been in Saskatoon for about 12 hours now and I think I have a handle on the place.

The river is nice.  The residential areas are pretty.  The roads are insanely wide.  Great Western Pilsner tastes like 50, costs more than 2 dollars a bottle and suggests a difficult road ahead thanks to the provincial liquor board monopoly

Broadway street is cool for like, four blocks - and somehow those are the only four civilized blocks we have come across so far.  Cafes, bistros, and pubs seem to be absent.  Who needs them when you have a bevy of superstores on the outskirts of the city, and big American trucks to drive there in?

People like to jog, thunderstorms take a long time to roll in and you do not get as much for your rental money as you might think.

Learning so much about the city on the first day suggests that my second day will be a challenge.  Perhaps I can find a better beer, or cheaper?  It is important for us Saskadelphians to set lofty goals.
